One-Woman Show

Finding Home Position

One Woman, Two Worlds, Infinite Characters

In her intimate autobiographical one-woman show, Finding Home Position, Suhaila Salimpour plays more than just herself.

She embodies her strict Persian grandmother, her free-spirited mother, and even her own dance students as she tells her story of perseverance and resilience.

Beginning with her childhood caught between her father’s conservative Persian Shi’a Muslim family and her mother’s unstructured and wildly creative dance world, Suhaila reveals the shame and stigma she felt as she tried to just be an all-American girl… who grew up to be a belly dancer, just like her mom, much to her Persian family’s dismay.

Finding Home Position is a 90-minute theatrical presentation created for black box-style theaters. It integrates spoken word, dance, projections, and music.
